About

Chinese Red Lacquer Kang Table

This traditional Chinese kang table was designed for use on a kang — the raised brick platform found in northern Chinese homes that functioned as a heated living, sleeping, and dining area. Low in height and solidly proportioned, the table reflects a floor-level lifestyle where daily activities unfolded close to the ground. The warm red lacquer surface bears visible wear from long-term use, revealing layers of history beneath the pigment. Subtle apron detailing and gently curved legs lend the piece a quiet elegance, balancing practicality with refined craftsmanship. Today, it works beautifully as a low coffee table, display plinth, or sculptural accent in contemporary interiors.
