About

Burmese Temple Bird Sculpture

A carved wooden bird figure originating from a Burmese temple setting, likely once part of a larger architectural or ceremonial decorative scheme. The stylised form — with its upright posture, elongated neck, and simplified yet expressive carving — reflects traditional Burmese craftsmanship. Avian and mythical bird forms were commonly incorporated into monasteries and temple structures, symbolising protection, vigilance, and spiritual elevation. Traces of black lacquer remain across the surface, indicating the figure was once part of a more elaborate polychrome or gilded ensemble. Today, it stands as a sculptural fragment rich in patina and devotional history.
