About

Japanese Kutani Double-Gourd Vase with Gilded Motifs

A finely decorated Japanese Kutani double-gourd vase, distinguished by its vibrant iron-red palette, soft turquoise accents, and richly applied gilding. The upper register features a stylized character cartouche surrounded by geometric brocade patterns, while the lower body displays chrysanthemum and floral medallions—symbols of longevity, renewal, and imperial elegance in Japanese art.
The meticulous overglaze enamels and precision of the gold detailing reflect the refinement of Kutani workshops during the transitional years from the Meiji into the Taishō era, when artisans blended classical motifs with evolving decorative tastes.
