About

Emperor Dining Armchairs - Set of 2

This pair of Chinese official’s hat armchairs, often referred to as Ming-style yoke-back chairs or Guanmaoyi (官帽椅), is likely from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912) or a Ming-style revival and showcases the timeless elegance of classical Chinese furniture. Traditionally used by scholars and high-ranking officials, these chairs feature gracefully curved yoke-shaped crest rails, a central medallion carving on the back splat, and refined joinery that enhances both form and function. Crafted from elmwood, their sturdy structure includes curved arms and stretchers for support, while the naturally worn lacquer and rich patina add depth and authenticity, making them a striking addition to any sophisticated space.
