Burmese Temple Ceiling Panel

This exceptional panel originates from a traditional Burmese temple, where it once formed part of an intricately carved and painted ceiling structure. Composed of four joined teak planks, the piece showcases a circular mandala-like design at its center—rich in layered carving, red and black lacquer, and traces of gilt and pigment that have softened beautifully over time. The central carved flower, now missing, reveals the age and long history of the panel, adding to its authentic spiritual resonance.

The surrounding relief is densely decorated with floral motifs, scrolling forms, and symbolic details characteristic of Burmese monastic craftsmanship. The panel would have been positioned overhead, allowing worshippers to look upward and encounter a burst of sacred ornamentation. Its weathered surface, exposed wood grain, and remaining areas of lacquer paint reveal the centuries-long dialogue between craftsmanship, ritual use, and natural wear.

The four planks are currently secured from the back with two horizontal wooden battens held by nails and screws, and the panel can be dismantled for transport. As a wall-mounted art piece, it offers tremendous decorative presence—evoking the architectural poetry and spiritual atmosphere of a Burmese temple interior.
