About

Ban Pa Ao Pendant - Coiled Heavy Antique

In collaboration with Robert Sukrachand and the Ban Pa Ao Brass Community, Ubon Ratchathani Handcrafted using centuries-old techniques, the Coiled Brass Pendant is a sculptural lighting piece born from a rich collaboration between designer Robert Sukrachand and the Ban Pa Ao brassware artisans of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. Forged without molds or modern machinery, each pendant is cast entirely by hand, resulting in a form that is raw, organic, and singular. Its richly textured surface features the Coiled Heavy Antique patina — a speckled, nuanced finish achieved by burning local rice husks, a traditional method unique to the region. The result is a lighting object that carries both cultural resonance and contemporary character, equally at home as an expressive statement or quiet accent.

Each Ban Pa Ao light is uniquely hand-cast using ancient, mold-free techniques. The rice husk patination process creates rich, organic textures — ensuring no two pieces are alike. Variations in color and surface are part of the lamp’s character and charm.

Pern Baan

PERN BAAN is the vision of Thai-American designer Robert Sukrachand, whose work explores the intersection of Eastern heritage and Western design. Rooted in both New York and Thailand, the studio specializes in artisan-made lighting and home décor born from cross-cultural collaboration.

After years of crafting bespoke furniture in Brooklyn, Robert returned to Thailand to build a community where global designers and Thai artisans could co-create meaningful objects. Each piece reflects a dialogue between modern design and traditional Thai craftsmanship—objects that tell stories of identity, place, and connection. At PERN BAAN, design is more than form; it’s a bridge between cultures, crafted one piece at a time.
