A beautifully aged low chair from Chanalai village in the Swat Valley, Northern Pakistan. This 19th-century piece features a carved wooden backrest with radiating floral and geometric motifs — designs characteristic of the region’s mountain craftsmanship. The seat retains its traditional braided construction, made from interlaced cow leather strips that form a strong, flexible surface. Turned posts, hand-tooled details, and the naturally timeworn surface give the chair an earthy, sculptural presence. Functional, soulful, and deeply rooted in Swati domestic life, it stands today as a rare example of village craftsmanship from the Hindu Kush highlands.
