This pair of mid-Qing dynasty night stands from Shanxi, China, is crafted from solid elm wood and reflects the architectural clarity of northern Chinese furniture. Traditionally used as bedside or side cabinets, each piece features a small upper drawer and an open central panel framed by gently shaped cut-outs, creating a balanced interplay between solid structure and negative space. Their clean proportions and restrained carving highlight the functional elegance characteristic of Shanxi craftsmanship. The naturally aged surface and deep patina add warmth and historical depth to these quietly sophisticated pieces.
