About

Louis XVI-Style Painted and Giltwood Console – Italian

This elegant Italian console table is a refined expression of Louis XVI neoclassical design, featuring an elongated brèche marble top with a subtly contoured ogee edge that adds softness to its architectural form. The finely carved frieze is adorned with egg-and-dart and palmette motifs, directly inspired by the Ionic frieze of the Erechtheion in Athens—an homage to the classical revival that defined the Louis XVI period. These motifs are richly highlighted in giltwood, contrasting beautifully with the pale painted frame. The table stands on turned, fluted, and tapered legs, all hallmarks of the era’s elegant restraint. A beautifully shaped stretcher bar connects the legs, adding both visual interest and structural harmony. Sophisticated and timeless, this console captures the spirit of 18th-century neoclassicism with Italian craftsmanship and historical flair.
