About

Large Fat Lava Ceramic Base Lamp with Cowhide Shade by Walter Gerhards

A rare and impressive large-scale ceramic table lamp by Walter Gerhards, a notable maker from the West German Fat Lava period. The sculptural base features Gerhards’ signature heavy lava glaze — richly textured, deeply layered, and visually dynamic — giving the piece a strong, architectural presence.

Paired with an original cowhide lampshade, the lamp emits a warm, organic glow that complements the bold ceramic form. This combination of rustic texture and mid-century modern craftsmanship makes it a standout collector’s piece for living rooms, studies, or eclectic interiors that embrace character and materiality
