Chinese Ceremonial Mask

Llate 19th to Early 20th century.

Deep charcoal, earthen brown, flaking cream, muted red, and traces of ochre pigment, forming a highly textured, time-softened patina.

Heavily worn and authentically aged, with significant pigment loss, flaking paper layers, surface abrasion, cracks, and areas of exposed wood consistent with prolonged ritual use. The accumulated wear has resulted in a richly layered patina that enhances the mask’s expressive power and historical presence. Structurally stable; mounted on a later stand for display.

Carved soft wood with hand-painted paper applied to the surface. Pigments layered to define facial features and symbolic expressions, intended for ceremonial rather than decorative use.
