About

Bronze Incense Burner with Elephant Finial & Tripod Elephant-Head Legs

A richly ornamented bronze incense burner featuring a highly sculptural and symbolic design. The lid is topped with an elephant finial — a traditional emblem of strength, wisdom, and good fortune — surrounded by pierced scrollwork to allow fragrant incense smoke to escape. The vessel body is decorated in relief with auspicious creatures, floral medallions, and swirling motifs, adding layers of protective symbolism. Two handles take the form of elephant heads, echoing the tripod legs below, which are also shaped as elephant heads with stylised draped trappings. This piece reflects the decorative exuberance of late Qing religious and domestic bronzes, blending functional incense use with sculptural artistry.
