About

Black Lacquer Elm Kang Table with Drawers

A classic Chinese kang table, originally designed for use atop a raised heated platform (kang), reflecting the intimate scale of traditional northern Chinese interiors. Crafted from elm wood and finished in black lacquer, the surface has aged into a beautifully worn patina with layers of texture and tonal variation. The front features three drawers, each carrying traces of original finish and time-softened character, while the subtly carved apron adds refinement to its otherwise restrained form. Low in height yet rich in presence, this piece works effortlessly as a coffee table, altar table, or grounding element within contemporary spaces.

Condition

Good antique condition with heavy age-related wear. The lacquer shows significant patina, fading, and areas of loss, especially across the drawers and top surface. Surface marks and irregularities consistent with long-term use. Structurally sound, with wear that enhances its authenticity and character.
