About

Rare Italian Marquetry Burlwood and Mahogany Convertible Game Table

This late 20th‑century Italian metamorphic games table is a masterful example of Italian craftsmanship in burr maple and intricate marquetry. The square top, with its gracefully clipped corners, features a striking floral marquetry panel framed by detailed kingwood borders and a matching frieze. Designed for multi-game use, the table boasts a removable top with an inlaid backgammon board on its underside; an additional removable panel reveals a reversible chess board set against a baize playing surface; and yet another sliding surface displays a stained inlaid roulette board that conceals a roulette wheel along with integrated card and counter storage. Complemented by dedicated compartments for chips, chess, and draughts sets, the piece is elevated on robust square, tapered, and swept legs, making it a functional work of art.
