Burmese Puppet Heads 1

This hand-carved wooden puppet head originates from Myanmar (Burma) and was once part of a traditional Yoke Thé marionette, an important form of Burmese theatrical storytelling. The figure features elongated facial proportions, prominent ears, and finely carved hair details, reflecting the stylized aesthetic typical of Burmese puppet craftsmanship. Traces of original polychrome decoration remain on the surface, now softened by time into a beautiful natural patina.

The hollowed back reveals where the puppet mechanism would have been attached, allowing the head to move as part of a fully articulated performance figure controlled by strings. Weathered cracks and surface wear testify to its age and use, enhancing its sculptural presence. Now mounted on a custom stand, the piece is presented as a striking cultural artifact that celebrates the artistry and heritage of traditional Southeast Asian puppetry.
