A pair of Burmese wooden chofa (roof finials), each carved as a tall, tapering column of stacked figures — two celestial or guardian figures rise one above the other, their raised arms supporting the bulbous, diamond-crested finial tip. Chofa of this kind were traditionally mounted at the gable ends of temple or palace roofs in Burmese and Shan architecture, and the deeply carved figural detailing and considerable scale of this pair reflect the significant craftsmanship once devoted to religious or royal buildings. Each is mounted on a fitted black stand.
