Antique Oak Carved Hall-bench

A handsome antique oak hall bench with a tall panelled back, the three panels deeply carved with scrolling acanthus foliage centred on carved figural masks, each flanked by shell motifs. The back terminates in gently scrolled finials at either end. Shaped, scrolled open arms lead down to turned baluster front legs, joined by a box stretcher. The seat is fitted with a removable cushion covered in a floral needlepoint tapestry depicting a basket of flowers, adding a soft, decorative contrast to the bold oak carving. A striking and versatile piece, equally suited to an entrance hall or as an occasional seat.
