An imposing 19th century Renaissance Revival oak hall bench, the tall canopied back richly carved in high relief with grotesque winged dragons, scrolling foliage, and floral swags to the frieze. The three-panel back below features symmetrical strapwork carving centred on portrait medallions of classical figures, flanked by carved figural supports. Barley-twist columns rise from the scrolled, hand-rest arms to support the projecting cornice above. The hinged seat lifts to reveal a storage compartment, with the front similarly divided into three carved panels echoing the Renaissance figural and scrollwork motifs of the back. A substantial and sculptural piece, ideal as a statement seat for an entrance hall.
