About

Burmese Nat ( Spirit Figure)

This Burmese Nat (spirit) figure represents a protective household spirit, reflecting the deep-rooted animist beliefs of Myanmar, where 37 principal Nats are traditionally revered. Carved in the form of a male figure wearing a demon mask, the sculpture was originally mounted with antlers (now missing) and hung on the wall of a house to guard against harm and negative spirits. Expressive facial features and traces of original paint lend the piece a strong presence, embodying both spiritual symbolism and folk artistry. Today, it stands as a powerful ritual object and sculptural artefact, carrying the protective intent and cultural significance of Burmese Nat worship.
