"A Chinese soapstone head sculpture, finely carved and presented on a later wooden stand, with an overall height of 29 cm (stone: 18 cm).

The work depicts a serene, idealized visage, likely representing a bodhisattva or Buddhist-inspired figure. The features are distilled and composed—gently closed eyes, softly defined brows, and a restrained smile—conveying a quiet, inward presence. The modeling is smooth and simplified, privileging stillness over naturalistic detail.

The headdress rises in a stylized, near-abstract form, with linear incisions suggesting a diadem or arranged curls. Its treatment reflects an archaic or vernacular sensibility, lending the piece a distinctive, almost sculptural directness.

The stone bears a warm brown patina, with natural tonal variation, surface wear, and minor abrasions consistent with age. These subtle irregularities, together with slight asymmetries in the carving, enhance its tactile and expressive character.

Mounted on a later dark wood stand, the head is elevated as an autonomous object, balancing devotional resonance with sculptural presence.
