About

A Pair of Japanese Shigaraki Blue Glazed Ceramic Hibachi - Set of 2

A pair of Japanese Shigaraki ware ceramic hibachi braziers, each a substantial cylindrical vessel originally used to hold burning charcoal for warmth in the traditional Japanese home. The dark stoneware body is dressed in a rich, deep blue drip glaze that pools unevenly down the sides, thinning to reveal the warm clay tone beneath — a hallmark of Shigaraki pottery, prized for embracing the natural, unpredictable behaviour of the kiln rather than striving for uniformity. The resulting surface has a tactile, almost geological quality, with each vessel showing its own unique pattern of glaze movement. A handsome pair for use as planters, ice buckets, or simply as sculptural ceramic objects.
