About

Chinese Document Chest

This compact Chinese document chest was traditionally used to store scrolls, contracts, deeds, and household records. Crafted from pine wood and finished in aged black lacquer, it features a slanted lid for easy access and a front opening fitted with delicate carved brackets typical of southern Chinese scholar furniture. The chest sits on an integrated pedestal base, giving it a sense of quiet presence despite its modest scale. Timeworn surfaces and a naturally distressed lacquer patina reveal generations of handling and practical use.
